Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, Southern Region, in Leonardtown, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Contractual Conservation Aide IV position. This position will perform work outdoors to implement trail maintenance work on DNR owned properties in Charles and St. Mary's Counties. Work duties will entail but are not limited to routine construction work, operating chainsaws, operating agricultural equipment such as tractors and skid steer loaders, driving B class vehicles and performing manual labor with hand tools.
Note: Applicants must have completed Basic Wildland Fire Training: S-130 and S-190 prior to submission of application.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience using chainsaws, operating farm equipment such as tractors and skid steer loaders, general construction and driving class B rated trucks.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees appointed to this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees must possess a valid driver's license valid in the State of Maryland. A class A or B CDL Driver's License is required for this position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of Basic Wildland Fire Training: S-130 and S-190 is required for fire suppression activities as needed when working in remote areas of State Forest.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
