1 - Cedarville State Forest, Brandywine, MD (Prince Georges County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Forest Service is accepting applications for 2 full time seasonal Forest Ranger positions that will report to the Fire Staff and assist with wildland fire management in a multi-county area. One position will be located at the Green Ridge Fire Center in Allegany County and one position will be located at Cedarville State Forest in Prince Georges County. Responsibilities will include wildland fire prevention, pre-suppression and suppression duties including response to wildfires, prescribed burning, equipment operation, prevention and planning activities, training, routine maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Three years experience in wildland fire or forestry work.

For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.htm.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.  A Class A or B CDL Drivers License is required for this position. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Completion of Basic Wildland Fire Training: S-130, S-190, I-100.  Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
