LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located at 29 Saint Johns St, Annapolis, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to maintain and repair the motor vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment for the Annapolis Capital Complex. Employee may be required to work nights holidays and weekends as necessary. This position is designated Essential, requiring employee to report to work during his/her regularly scheduled work hours regardless of conditions.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Conducts electronic engine analyses and specialized test, such as distributor resistance, manifold vacuum, fuel pump vacuum cylinder compression, specific gravity, electronic ignitions or fuel injections systems.  Operate fork lifts and trucks.  Maintain fuel supplies such as oil, diesel, and gas needed to run motors and generators. 
  • Perform weekly vehicle inspections and keep updated records on all State vehicles assigned to the Annapolis Capital Complex. Also, schedule generator inspections and repairs as needed and to keep records updated on all repairs.
  • Service and repairs to vehicles and grounds equipment. Assist in the repairs to generators in the buildings throughout the Complex. Maintain automotive shop, keeping all tools and equipment cleaned and in good operating condition.
  • Perform regular scheduled preventative maintenance (quarterly, bi-annual, annual, seasonal or mileage based) of vehicles, stationary diesel engines, tractors, forklifts, and other grounds equipment.
  • Repair various attachments and grounds tools, truck beds, carts and wheelbarrows. Installation of snow plows and salt spreaders to vehicles during inclement weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles or equipment, one year of which must have involved responsibility for performing major automotive repair work.

Notes:

1. A diploma from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a major in automotive mechanics, or a related field, may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Mechanic classifications or Automotive Maintenance Technician and Vehicle Maintenance specialty codes in the Mechanic or Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM AND SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

Two years of the required experience must have involved maintaining and repairing grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants willing to accept employment in Annapolis, MD.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The list will be valid for at least one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

 You must possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – Verification will be completed by the appointing authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination.  Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.  You must include on your application the time you spent in such activity.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
