Main Purpose of Job

The Epidemiologist I in the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Program will provide preserve, protect and promote the health of all Anne Arundel County residents by applying basic epidemiologic practices in the analysis, interpretation and evaluation of disease data; teaches staff in select investigation methods in order to strengthen the Department's disease surveillance capacity; and strengthens preparation and response capabilities in the event of a public health emergency, especially a bioterrorist attack. The Epidemiologist I designs and uses statistical and clinical data systems to answer public health questions and to evaluate progress and program performance by reviewing activities completed and outcomes achieved; provides technical assistance, computer assisted data analyses, and graphics of vital statistics, hospital discharge data, and clinical data from other sources both internal and external to the Department; and participates in community needs assessment and planning activities for Department programs and events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in BiostatisticsA copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial) must accompany your application.

Experience: None

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
