The Department of Housing and Community Development's Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County at the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Housing and Community Development has an immediate opening for an Loan/Insurance Underwriter Assistant in its Division of Credit Assurance. This individual will be responsible for the day to day monitoring of loans to ensure the mortgagers are complying with the State guidelines and timelines to alleged violations or potential violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and taking immediate corrective action to notify Mortgager for non-compliance of such violations; Post changes and organizes databases of permanent records in excel programs, processes various closing with Division of Credit Assurance/Maryland Housing Fund underwriting colleagues; setting up and managing spreadsheets, folders and correspondence; scans all Maryland Housing Fund (MHF) packages and sold Real Estate Owned (REO) correspondence into scanner for docushare.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience providing administrative or clerical support in a housing program or lending operation.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as described may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. A certificate in Housing Finance and Development from the University of Maryland may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Additional education at an accredited institution of higher education in real estate, business administration, or banking may be substituted for the required experience at a rate of 30 credits for one year.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the Loan Specialist classification series or Loan Specialist specialty codes on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of application practices and documents for mortgage loan and mortgage insurance.      
  • Knowledge of lending forms and of loan closing documents and transcripts.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties and responsibilities which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
