Main Purpose of Job

This Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) holds specialized knowledge in the field of infection control and employee health. The CNS is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of infection control data and educating employees about infection prevention. The CNS is responsible for all aspects/elements of the employee health program which includes disease detection, prevention and treatment; following up on employee incident/illness; conducting health screenings; and promoting a safe work environment. The CNS is responsible for the the development of health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control and employee health practices to meet all regulatory agency compliance and national standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years in the option for which application is made. One year of experience in the option for which application is made must have been in a supervisory, administrative, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:

1. A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the general experience as a Registered Nurse.

 2. Two years of additional experience as a Registered Nurse in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the education requirement.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of license or license number must be attached to the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
