The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Professional Services Program Manager within the Division of Business and Industry Sector Development, Office of Strategic Industries & Entrepreneurship.

Main Purpose of Job

This position works with Maryland's professional services providers within key sectors including but not limited to: banking, financial services, accounting, legal, and IT/digital media/data management to ensure Maryland has the resources and a conducive environment to attract new providers and assist established firms grow and expand their business.

POSITION DUTIES

The main job functions include: operating as the primary link between the Department and Maryland’s professional service providers across the State; serving as the Department’s expert on professional service industries matters; marketing Maryland as an investment destination to out-of-state professional service industry firms; identifying obstacles and opportunities for sector expansion; and building a cohort of service providers to engage out-of-state and international clients to consider Maryland as a destination for business investment.   The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects and possess proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software.   

Some statewide travel is required, as is, attendance at out of State conferences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related industry field, and

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in industrial, business or economic development; marketing; planning; finance; commercial real estate; manufacturing; or related field. 

Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of and work experience in one or more of the State’s service Sectors as listed above.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in the Maryland state legislative process as it pertains to policies and regulations that affect these professions.
