Main Purpose of Job

This position promotes the utilization of prison made products and services to government agencies, institutions, non-profit charitable, civic educational, fraternal and religious organizations within the geographic boundaries of the State of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Some of the duties for this position include:

Generating new sales either by appointments, cold calls or referrals

·         Customer visits (average 4 per day; 80 per month), schedule appointments with purchasing/facility departments, agency administrators, other state officials or allowable customer base deemed appropriate to make procurement decisions.

·         Utilize all forms of communication to include written correspondence (email), in order to maintain contact with existing customer base and to solicit/generate a pool of prospective clients

·         Generate new customers/sales by making a minimum of 5 cold calls/visits per month.

Maintain/Update Client Base

·         Maintain/update a mailing list for assigned territory as needed.  All clients on the mailing list must be visited at a minimum of twice annually.

·         Maintain regular contact with current clients and keep them abreast of new products, price schedules, and availability of current product on a bi-weekly basis.

·         Schedule and conduct periodic tours of the agency’s living showroom and manufacturing plants to provide personal/hands on experience for current and prospective clients.

Written reports requiring analytical, language, mathematical skills and reasoning abilities

·         Weekly schedules (electronic calendar) showing customer meetings (schedule to be 2 weeks in advance)

·         Provide weekly quota reports highlighting potential future clients/sales, as well as quota goals

·         Utilizing a preformatted Excel format developing accurate bills of materials/quotes

·         Provide Design department with accurate and neat hand drawings, with detailed customer needs that coincide with accurate field measurements taken

Administrative Duties

·         Attend and participate in “New Products” committee meetings and make recommendations based on customer needs

·         Participate in various statewide trade shows.  Meet new contacts and present product information.  Attend approximately 10 shows per year.

·         Provide/attend on-going product training from new and current vendors monthly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

 

In order to meet this educational requirement a copy of your diploma or high school equivalency certificate must accompany your application.

 

For education obtained outside the United States, you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. This evaluation must be submitted with your application.

Experience: Two (2) years of outside sales experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet this selective qualification to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year collecting and analyzing data which must include: customer demographics, preferences, needs, and buying habits to identify potential markets and factors affecting product demand.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
