Main Purpose of Job

The Director of Reporting Services is a senior member of the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center (MLDSC) at the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). The position will provide professional services, including coordinating the public reporting of the Center through its website, public reports, and communications to key stakeholders. The Director will also assist MHEC's Offices of Research and Policy Analysis and Information Technology with data quality controls, data analysis, information reports, research studies, and special projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following activities: Direct the daily operations of the MLDSC's Reporting Services Branch, including creating and updating data dashboards, creating reports, providing information in response to special requests and inquiries, and website content management. Manage public outreach and communication about the MLDSC and its research outputs. Serve as liaison between MHEC and MLDSC including serving as a subject matter expert on MHEC data, higher education policy issues, and longitudinal data analysis and findings. Perform research data quality control procedures in preparation for file dissemination. Prepare, coordinate and assess the effectiveness of research studies and reports pertaining to key higher education issues as requested by the Commission and MLDS Governing Board. Develop data visualizations for MHEC's Office of Research and Policy Analysis in support of MHEC's website and communications activities. Coordinate the response to data and information requests received both from members of the Commission staff and from external audiences, including the campuses, other state agencies, Maryland businesses, the general public, and out-of-state educational organizations. Serve as a Commission and/or MLDSC representative or staff member on assigned task forces, workgroups, or special projects. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader in higher education with excellent analytical skills and the ability to convey complex research findings to lay audiences. Applicants should possess a thorough understanding of critical issues regarding all segments of postsecondary education; have experience managing projects with deadlines; working collaboratively as part of a team; and leading work groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in higher education administrative research and planning, including a history of designing and coordinating large-scale collaborative projects and complex research studies, or a history of developing and leading information technology projects involving technical data management.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-One or more years of experience in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)  

-Two or more years of experience with SPSS or another statistical package  

-Competitive applicants will possess a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university  

-One year of experience in policy analysis and development
