THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP SCHEDULED TO LAST FROM MAY 2016 TO AUGUST 2016.

POSITION DUTIES

The purpose of the Communications Summer Internship is to expose interns to all facets of public relations as well as place them in areas of interest. This will include assisting staff in public relation, graphic design and communication projects.

Duties will include:

  • Writing, editing and distributing media advisories, press releases, tax tips and feature articles
  • Assisting with employee publications
  • Designing and creating posters and flyers for Comptroller events
  • Contacting media via telephone and emails to market agency stories and events
  • Reading local newspapers for pertinent articles, pasting and clipping agency related news articles, and conducting research
  • Attending fairs and festivals, press events, staff meetings, and other pertinent meetings

Interns may also be assigned to other staff members to work on designated projects and complete other tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Applicant must currently be at least in their junior year at a four year college or university pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, Graphic Arts or other related field.

Experience: None.

If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.htm.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to work 8 hours a day for at least four days per week.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this position will be consider. Therefore, it is essential that you submit complete and accurate information on your application in order to determine if you meet the qualifications as specified above. Applicants are required to submit a resume, three writing samples, and transcripts; however, resumes will not be accepted in lieu of completing the application.

Qualifying applicants may be subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
