Introduction

Maryland State Department of Education is recuiting for an Administrative Specialist Officer I; located in the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one (1) year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position designated as a Special Appointment reporting the Chief of the School and Community Nutrition Branch (SCNPB) serving as the lead officer manager responsible for providing administrative, technical and secretarial support to the Branch Chief, the Marketing Specialist, and of the Section Leaders.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides administrative support to OSCNP for the Child Nutrition Programs (CNPs) administered by MSDE. Provides leadership, initiative, and independent judgment to evaluate, analyze, and develop office business processes; assess needs; develop recommendations; document business processes; and implement appropriate change, with general direction and supervision; prepares, distributes, and organizes a variety of correspondence and forms and maintains required files. Also provides general technical assistance to Agencies and appropriately refers inquires to other staff as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related area.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience providing administrative support in a professional work environment that includes using a variety of software applications, office equipment, assisting in formulating and writing procedures and composing correspondence.

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education, for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in MS Word Office suite (Excel, Word and Access)
  • Experience developing documents (including fillable PDF) and creating presentations
  • Evaluating and implementing office business processes for operations and recommend change as needed
  • Initiate, analyze and prepare reports related to program operations
  • Strong ability to organize documents, electronic files and manage complex processes while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and quality
  • Detailed administrative experience in detailed administrative work, (i.e., retreiving information and documentation, drafting data entry such as entering, retrieving and tracking data from documents or reports)
  • Preparing and managing evaluations and surveys
