Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Health Care Commission, an independent STate agency responsible for planning for health system needs and promoting informed decision -making by providing timely and accurate information on availability, cost and quality of health care services to policy makers, purchasers, providers, and the public is seeking a Program Manager for its Hospital Quality Initiatives Program.  Key responsibilities of the position include: providing support for the expansion and management of the Maryland Performance Evaluation System with a focus on collection, review and management of healthcare associated infections (HAI) data through the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN); researching and analyzing HAI data; providing staff support to the state HAI Advisory Committee and subcommittees including drafting working papers and plan-components for review; developing annual implementation plans targeting activities designed to address goals and objectives; developing a strategy to monitor and communicate progress in meeting defined HAI prevention targets; providing staff support to the Prevention Collaboratives; coordinating regularly with hospitals and other stakeholder organizations; coordinating the annual survey on Infection Prevention and Control in hospitals; and, preparing an Annual Report on HAI prevention activities for the State of Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a master's degree in nursing, public health, health care policy, public policy, health care administration or a closely related field and at least 3 years related experience.  A bachelor's degree in nursing, biology or a health-care related field and two additional years of indicated general experience will substitute for the master's degree.

The successful candidate must possess knowledge of healthcare-associated infections data and hospital clinical data bases supporting quality improvement activities and have excellent quantitative, statistical, analytical and computer skills.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have infection control practitioner, nursing, hospital or health care industry experience in the area of healthcare-associated infections and clinical quality improvement with training in epidemiology and/or statistics. The position requires working knowledge of the CDC National Health Safety Network.
