Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for providing supervision to academic and career technology instructors at the Workforce and Technology Center. The supervisor also provides instruction and assessments to individuals with disabilities with application to training and employment.

POSITION DUTIES

Manage overall operations of the WTC Academic Services Department and provide leadership and supervision to academic and career and technology instructors. Evaluate, implement and revise academic and career technology curriculum to ensure the delivery of quality and individualized services. Market programs to internal and external referral sources. Monitor AWARE system to ensure staff compliance with established procedures. Provide case management to stand alone academic services and coordinate services and provide guidance to Center counselors to assure interdisciplinary planning. Serve as the WTC liaison between DORS and MSDE to assure maintenance of requirements for MSDE certification of teachers. Review accommodation needs of students and facilitate the process for application of accommodations for GED testing. Participate in interdisciplinary and supervisory meetings; special assignments and professional development. Plan, conduct, and assess classroom instructional activities; assess and record progress toward educational goals; maintain educational records; requisition necessary materials; maintain classroom safety; track achievement of desired program outcomes; develop alternative instruction for individualized and independent study and provide individualized or small group academic assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: 

A Master's Degree in School Administration and Supervision or Master's Degree plus the required 18 graduate credits in School Administration and Supervision for the Administrator I Certificate.  Administrator II Certificate preferred.  

EXPERIENCE:

Three years of satisfactory teaching experience. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role in the education of adults with disabilities is preferred.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education; knowledge of the subject area taught in basic academic skills and GED programs; knowledge of instructional planning and teaching methods; skills in the use of assessment instruments and adaptive technology; ability to develop appropriate educational goals and objectives; ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to supervise and lead academic and career technology staff in implementing Center and agency policies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs, and applicants must consent to State Police Investigation as a routine procedure for all employees in this classification.  Failure to obtain and maintain a Maryland Teaching Certificate will be the basis for termination of employment.
