Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of automobile, truck, boat or other engines or motors and related assemblies or in the supervision or management of an automotive repair shop.

The Automotive/Engine Mechanic job family consists of five levels which are distinguished based on the duties assigned, the expertise required to perform assigned work, and the responsibilities assigned for providing supervision to others. 

Level III:                                            
This is the specialist level, where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing highly skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of specialized and heavy duty equipment.  Responsibilities may include trouble-shooting repair needs which are difficult to identify; independently completing major repair projects, or directing projects requiring a team effort, including supervision of others in the completion of some work. 

Level III:                                        
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of  four years of mechanical experience in the repair of internal combustion engines; or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience, substituting one year of related technical training for each year of the required experience.
