BASIC PURPOSE
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving planning, organizing, directing and conducting individual and group leisure-time and physical education activities for inmates in a state correctional institution or facility.
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS
The Correctional Activities Officer job family consists of two levels, which are distinguished based on the accountability assigned for planning and supervising physical education/leisure-time programs and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.
Level I:
This is the career level where employees are assigned responsibilities at the full performance level for planning and conducting a variety of physical education and recreational activities at a state correctional facility. This may include providing training and guidance to inmates, recreation workers or others in preparing for and administering assigned activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level I:
Education and experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of recreational coaching or instruction for each year of the required education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of correctional or security work for each year of the required education with a maximum substitution of two years.
