Introduction

This position is located at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in Sulphur.

This position is the secretary to the Superintendent and is responsible for preparing letters, memos, State, DRS and OSD Forms, teacher contracts and composing routine correspondence.  Duties include answering telephone calls; providing information on statewide services related to deaf persons or referring callers to the appropriate staff members; opening, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail and maintaining the Superintendent’s inventory. Other duties include arranging appointments and conferences, the Superintendent’s calendar, travel itineraries and preparing travel claims and expenses as well as interpreting for the Superintendent as required. This position requires computer competency with the ability to compose documents and compile needed information using MS Word, Excel and other computer information systems. Working hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Preference will be given to candidates that are proficient in American Sign Language.  Probationary period (or trial period if applicable) is required.  

This position may be filled at a higher level of the job family, depending upon the qualifications of the recommended applicant.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing confidential secretarial duties for an agency official or administrator.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

Level III:
At this level employees perform confidential secretarial work for the assistant administrator of a major service area; may direct the work of other technical/clerical employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level III:  
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of five years of clerical office work, including two years as an office manager, executive assistant or as a confidential secretary, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Selection Plan

Scores based on:  50% Written Test 50% Typing Test (the pass point is 50 words per minute)
