Under direction of the Executive Director supervises the recreational therapy staff at the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. With a thorough knowledge of psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse, the individual completes assessments and provides individual and/or group rehabilitation and expressive therapies. Responsible for monitoring the quality of care, supervision of clinical staff and assist in program development as indicated.
Knowledge of therapeutic methods, techniques, principles and practices for recreational, music and occupational therapy; of the principles and practices of administration organization and training, of supervisory methods; of recreational therapy budgets. Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations related to mental health, JCAHO, CMS, and OFMQ requirements; of laws and standards related to confidentiality, medical records, and inpatient services as they pertain to patients. Ability is required to implement and evaluate therapy programs in an inpatient setting; to train and supervise professional and non-professional therapy personnel; to coordinate therapy programs with medical and social services; to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Salary Range is $36,691 - $46,414.
Requirements consist of a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and national certification for Therapeutic Recreation and five years of professional level experience working with the mentally ill, including one year in an administrative or supervisory capacity
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
NOTE: There will be no substitution slowed for the required one year of experience working in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
