Basic Purpose:
Perform professional alternative instruction at the secondary and occasionally the primary level for educationally and motivationally challenged youth.
Typical Functions:
• Under supervision of the Lead Educator, perform professional alternative instruction at the secondary and occasionally the primary level for educationally and motivationally challenged youth and other curriculum as required for student development
• Maintain records of cadet progress
• Develop lesson plans for topics of instruction
• Administer specialized testing
• Review and evaluate new materials for classroom use and apply techniques to encourage academic improvement
• Maintain control of the learning environment by implementing academy policies and classroom conduct rules and procedures in a fair and equitable manner for the cadets
• May be required to direct and supervise educational field trips, student social, and/or recreational activities
• Attend educational, institutional and department meetings as required
• Inventory educational materials, supplies and equipment in assigned classroom
• Perform related work as required by the supervisor
• Develop and implement an elective class for cadets
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to handle confidential information; exercise judgment in interpreting and applying rules and policy; ability to work on the internet with computer based instructional skills required
Education and Experience:
BA/BS and Oklahoma Teacher Certification required or the ability to obtain a provisional teaching certificate
Licenses/Certificates required:
Oklahoma Teaching Certificate required
Benefits:
This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including paid health, dental, life, and disability insurance for the employee and 75% paid health insurance for dependents. Annual leave of 10 hours per month and sick leave of 10 hours per month begin accruing immediately.
Physical Requirements:
• Able to lift/carry a minimum of 10 pounds
• Sitting at a computer for long periods of time
• Standing in a classroom for 6 class periods daily

Notes:
This position is located at Thunderbird Youth Academy in Pryor, OK. Travel may be required at the expense of the employee to be reimbursed within 45 days of travel
