INTRODUCTION

This vacancy is for an Armed Security Officer III.

Capitol Patrol

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities at a state facility or institution involving the inspection of buildings and grounds for elimination of fire hazards, enforcement of laws, rules and regulations and providing security against acts of terrorism for state facilities, employees and the public.  This may include patrolling assigned premises to identify and correct fire hazards, providing assistance to employees or visitors, directing traffic and performing other duties related to the protection of state property, employees, visitors and others.  Some positions may be primarily responsible for fire prevention activities and have additional responsibilities assigned for assisting in firefighting activities.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Fire Prevention and Security Officer job family has four levels of work which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level III:
At this level employees are required to carry a firearm and are involved in anti-terrorism activities to protect state facilities, employees and the public.  This includes detaining suspects for proper authorities or making citizens arrests; operating weapon screening posts; conducting building checks and investigating unusual or suspicious acts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level III:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a basic security and/or firefighters course and three (3)  years of experience in security or fire prevention and protection work; OR six months of experience in security work and a current licensure as an armed security guard through the Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.

This position requires graduation from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training Academy (CLEET) with certification as an “Armed Security Guard.”

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The Department of Public Safety has been authorized to utilize a Selective Qualification when interviewing applicants for this position.
