Salary:
The bi-weekly hiring rate established for this position is $1,733.96.

Description:
The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is recruiting to fill a position for Pontotoc County Health Department for the Tobacco Control Program. Position assigned responsibilities, coordinating evidence based intervention to implement best practices in tobacco control based on the county needs of Pontotoc.  Under the supervision of the Tobacco Use Prevention Services this position is responsible for coordinating programs to (1) prevent the initiation of tobacco use among young people, (2) eliminate exposure to second hand smoke (3) promote cessation among adults and young people, and (4) identify and eliminate tobacco related disparities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
•        Serves as the program coordinator for a community-based comprehensive tobacco control program in Pontotoc County. 
•        Coordinate the strategic Planning phase of the program in collaboration with Pontotoc County Turning Point.
•        Coordinating strategic planning processes and meetings with the community coalition to develop a comprehensive tobacco control program.
•        Providing staff support for coalition meetings and public forums.
•        Developing and presenting training to community groups, professional associations, employers, and opinion leaders.
•        Developing media messages and cultivating media relationships.
•        Mobilizing community organizations to develop and implement community interventions and system level changes.
•        Developing program reports, collecting data, and maintaining databases.
•        Complying with program, financial, and evaluation guidelines.
•        Communicating program goals and successes to professionals, contractors, decision makers, community leaders, and the media.

Education and Work Experience:
Requirements consist of a bachelor's degree in community health, social work, communications, or a related field, or a minimum of four years of experience working with community development and mobilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
        
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
Skill in providing technical assistance to various organizations in planning and managing community based programs; technical skills in computer applications (power point, excel, and access) web design and/or web information maintenance is preferred. Ability to develop and make effective oral presentations; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to coordinate workshops and trainings for adults and youth; to work as a team player. Knowledge of tobacco industry strategies that target youth, tobacco control programs, laws and or policies, and adult and youth empowerment methods are preferred.
      
Other:
Position requires possible response to public health emergencies including, but not limited to, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, or catastrophic events.  The Oklahoma State Department of Health is tobacco free.  Employees are prohibited from using tobacco products throughout all indoor and outdoor areas of premises under the control of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, in all vehicles on those premises, and in state vehicles in use for OSDH business anywhere.  Applicants may be subject to a background check.

Title 74, 840-5.5. (A)(4) - Persons employed with one-time, limited duration, federal or other grant funding that is not continuing or indefinitely renewable.  The length of the unclassified employment shall not exceed the period of time for which that specific federal funding is provided.
