INTRODUCTION

This position is located at the Cherokee Landing State Park.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving patrolling park/resort grounds and property and the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations within the assigned area of responsibility.  This includes insuring the safety and welfare of park/resort visitors and assigned staff.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Park Ranger job family consists of four levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the expertise required for various responsibilities and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level I:
This is the basic level where incumbents primarily perform entry level duties in a training status to build their skills in providing security and protection in a state park or resort and providing assistance to visitors using the park/resort facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level I:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university, including twelve hours in park management, criminal justice, outdoor recreation or environmental science; or two years of experience in park supervisory and/or recreation program work, law enforcement or environmental sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
