BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibility for the enforcement of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor carrier operations, motor vehicle license and registration, and motor fuel taxes and fees.  This includes monitoring and inspecting motor carriers for required permits, licenses, registration or decals, issuing warnings or citations, impounding vehicles or determining other appropriate actions against violators.  Duties are accomplished through the operation of a motor vehicle weigh station or patrolling state roads and highways.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

This job family consists of three levels which are distinguished by the level of complexity and diversity of the specific job assignments, the extent of responsibility assigned for each level, the expertise required for the completion of the duties assigned, and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level II:    
This is the career level of the job family where employees will be assigned responsibility at the weigh stations, establishing and maintaining roadblocks, issuing citations and impounding vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level I:    
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of four years of experience in the transportation industry or in the field of law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting completion of thirty semester hours at an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.
