Basic Purpose: The State Tracking and Reintegration System (STARS) program, uses various methods to track adjudicated youth recently paroled or on pass from the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) level E and above facilities.
Typical Functions:
• Install, replace and remove GPS equipment on site which can be either an OJA office location, the youth’s home or at a youth facility
• Troubleshoot equipment issues in the field
• Conduct initial community meetings ensuring all information gathered is accurate
• Set up both inclusion zones and exclusion zones using Smart View, a proprietary GPS web based program
• Assist youth in creating weekly schedules
• Gathers schedules from youth; gains approval for schedules from appropriate OJA caseworker; and redistribute schedules to youth and STARS communication center
• Enter schedules and schedule changes into Smart View
• Make phone calls to youth several times per week
• Tracks youth online using Smart View
• Receives SAP alerts and addresses them appropriately according to STARS policy
• Carries a differentiated caseload ensuring all information is accurate and up to date
• Communicates on a daily basis with STARS communication center to ensure correct zone placements, accurate and up to date schedules, activate and deactivate equipment and to coordinate equipment inventories
• Communicates with OJA on a regular basis both in person, on the phone and electronically
• Maintain assigned vehicle to include fuel, wipers, fluids, lights, cleanliness and tires
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to handle confidential records; familiar with HIPPA laws; good organizational skills; must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED; some college preferred. Degree not required. Experience working with at-risk youth
Special Requirements: Able to work weekends and evenings as needed; able to drive for extended periods of time. Must have a dependable computer with Microsoft Office Suite software and a copier/scanner available.
