Main Purpose of Job

This executive level position is responsible for the administration and operations of the Board of Nursing. The Board includes a staff of 57 permanent employees and 18 contractual employees. The Board licenses more than 150,000 individuals including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, advanced practice nurses, nursing assistants, medication technicians and electrologists. In addition to activities related to licensure, including investigation of complaints and discipline of licensees, the Board is responsible for the approval of all nursing education programs and nursing assistant education programs in the state. The executive director is responsible for: (1) interpretation of all policies, the nurse practice act and board decisions to the public and nursing community; (2) the coordination of Board activities with other state agencies, the legislature, the health care community, the education programs, and other state licensing boards; (3) represents the Board on both a state and national level; and serves as spokesperson for the Board before the media and the community.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Masters’s degree in nursing or the equalivalent and six years of health services or healthcare administration or professional experience, three years at top level management.  Applicants must possess a Registered Nursing license by the Maryland Board of Nursing.  A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated.  The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work.  For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.  All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  We will not consider information submitted after this date.  Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year.
