By law, DJS is a child-serving agency responsible for assessing the individual needs of referred youth and providing intake, detention, probation, commitment, and after-care services. DJS collaborates with youth, families, schools, community partners, law enforcement, and other public agencies to coordinate services and resources to contribute to safer communities.
The DJS Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Juvenile Services. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill this position or function only. Persons interested in future vacancies in the DJS Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional classification must reapply at that time.

The Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional position is responsible for providing direct clinical services under the direction of a licensed psychologist in the Multidisciplinary Assessment and Staffing (MAST) unit. The position will provide psychological evaluations for youth pending disposition and placements.

The Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional is a part-time (50%)- Approx. 20 hours/wk. position that will be responsible for administering psychological tests, interpreting the results, providing reports to the court and other agencies, and consulting with the treatment team related to psychological issues. The incumbent will be expected to provide crisis intervention and other clinical emergency services as needed to the youth being served in the Assessment unit. Other duties include performing administrative and supervisory functions as assigned. This position may require occasional on-call responsibilities for coverage in DJS facilities during the day, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university in a program acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have experience working with juveniles for at least one year are highly desired.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
The main office for this position will be located at the Charles Hickey School located in Baltimore County, however, candidates must be willing to travel statewide to perform his/her job functions when necessary.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Prior to probationary appointment, candidates must meet all selection standards as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Candidates who receive a probationary appointment must satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program prior to permanent appointment. Selection standards of the Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
