Introduction

THIS RECRUITMENT EFFORT IS LIMITED TO COMPTROLLER OF MARYLAND EMPLOYEES WITHIN THE SUPPORT SERVICES UNIT ONLY.

POSITION DUTIES

This is a critical position in the Automated Mail Insertion unit of the Comptroller's mailroom. The incumbent of this position is responsible for ensuring that all computer generated checks, forms and tax notices are mailed within two days of receipt. Responsibilities for this position include: mailing all income tax refund checks, GAD vendor checks, child support checks, Medicaid checks, State Retirement checks, tax forms, tax collection notices, etc. Since many of the documents are mailed for other state agencies, this position also requires the incumbent to exhibit diplomacy in dealing with those agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years experience in general services functions, office administration activities or in the receiving, storing, issuance, purchase or requisition of equipment, materials, and parts and supplies.

NOTES:

  • Additional experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT COMPTROLLER OF MARYLAND EMPLOYEES WORKING WITHIN THE SUPPORT SERVICES UNIT OF THE OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who are current Comptroller of Maryland employees and meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity.  The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience.  It is essential that you submit complete and accurate information on your application in order to determine if you meet the qualifications as specified above.  Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of completing the application. If applicable, please submit an unofficial copy of your college diploma or transcripts for full consideration of your qualifications. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview.  Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.  Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period.  This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
