Introduction

This position is open to only those employees currently employed within the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (DLLR) within the Office of General Services (OGS).

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as a production worker performing operations tasks in a major State agency mailroom processing 6 to 7 million pieces of mail per year, much of it time-sensitive under Federal mandates.

The position handles diverse duties related to processing outgoing U.S. mail, providing special mail services to the agency, and distributing U.S and interoffice mail. The incumbent in this position requires working knowledge of and skill in operating modern integrated mail equipment and high technology based solutions in sorting and inserting procedures. T

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for the daily operation of state-of-the art computer based mail processing system equipment; create and run reports for management and United States Postal Service (USPS); pick up outgoing mail and sort accordingly to allow posting throught the USPS; monitor equipment; maintain a high level of customer care; and sort and deliver incoming mail for all divisions within DLLR at 1100 N. Eutaw Street.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: One year experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for six months of the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud.  Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
