Introduction

This is an internal recruitment within the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) .  This position is open to those current temporary, contractual and/or permanent employees within the Occupational and Professional Licensing Boards/Consumer Licensing Center ONLY.

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

LOCATION OF POSITION

500 North Calvert Street (Baltimore City)

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to process license applications for the issuance of the licenses of 24 regulatory Boards and commissions within the divisions of Occupational and Professional licensing.

The position is also responsible for answering consumer inquiries through the Consumer Service Center by providing accurate information regarding the Board and Commissions, application and complaint status, and related information in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will review and process  original and renewal license applications; process license fees and refunds; verify and audit all application fees; maintain tracking and collection records; track and process manually on the computer; provide accurate and correct information to consumers about each agency within the Division; and other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

 4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate should have excellent customer service skills, call center experience and the ability to multi-task.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud.  Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

Applications that meet qualifications will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

The certified list will be used by DLLR for a period of one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination for this recruitment will be an evaluation and rating of the information provided on your application.  Therefore, it is essential that the application is filled out completely and accurately, listing all relevant education and experience and addressing the specific qualifications shown above. 

 Required documentation (diplomas, transcripts, certificates, licenses, etc.) must be submitted with the application and received by the closing date of the recruitment. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified.

BENEFITS

As a contractual position, the selected candidate will be paid only for hours worked.  This position has no state-paid benefits (i.e. sick leave, annual leave, personal leave, holidays, etc.). The person filling this position may purchase healthcare insurance at the state’s group rate.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
