NOTE:  This is a statewide recruitment for current and anticipated vacancies which will be filled as they occur.  The position will require statewide travel.

 

Main Purpose of Job

This position learns to conduct pre-employment polygraph examinations for sworn and civilian applicants of the Maryland State Police and allied agencies throughout Maryland in accordance with the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission mandate requiring police applicants to undergo pre-employment truth verification testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in criminal investigative work with a recognized law enforcement agency.

Notes: 1. Graduate education at an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience for up to two years.

2. Additional professional work experience in law enforcement may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the required education.

3.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Law Enforcement classifications or Criminal Investigator or Special Agent specialty codes in the Counter Intelligence or Special Investigations field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this position with the Maryland State Police or the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services will be subject to a complete criminal background investigation and polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the applicant.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24 hour basis and must provide a telephone or pager number so they can be contacted.

3. Employees in this classification must have access to an automobile for use on official business in the event a State vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
