Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting applications for 1- 2 internships with the Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden within the Maryland Park Service. This is an opportunity for students or recent college graduates to gain valuable, hands-on experience in all aspects of the operation of a small public garden. It is most appropriate for someone pursuing a career in horticulture.
The horticulture interns work closely with the garden's horticulturist in areas of plant identification (including invasive species), planting, irrigation, mulching, corrective pruning, integrated pest management, set-up for special events, and garden gift shop duties.
The Tawes Garden has a vital role in supporting the Department of Natural Resources as it preserves, protects, enhances and restores Maryland's natural resources for the wise use and enjoyment of all citizens. As a unit of the Maryland Park Service, the Tawes Garden's mission is to promote, educate and encourage the conservation and appreciation of native and cultivated gardening for the benefit of all.
