Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Office of the Secretary, in Annapolis, Maryland is seeking a current law or graduate student, or a recent college graduate to serve as the Department's Legislative Fellow for the 2016 session of the Maryland General Assembly. The Legislative Fellow will assist the Department's Legislative Office by performing the following duties:

  • conducting legal and legislative research;
  • editing correspondence,
  • bill position statements and testimony;
  • tracking legislation;
  • monitoring committee hearings and caucus briefings;
  • maintaining legislative files;
  • and completing administrative duties as needed.

Note: The Legislative Fellow must be available to work in Annapolis at least 40 hours a week from December 31, 2015 through May 5, 2016. Since the Legislature does not take any holidays during the 90 day session, the candidate selected must commit to a weekly work schedule and take no holidays or spring break.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or a current graduate student or law student.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong writing skills are preferred.

Environmental science or policy experience preferred.
