Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ defined benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 193,000 active members and more than 137,000 retirees and beneficiaries. 

The Agency is currently recruiting for an Administrator II to work in its Data Control Unit.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is a supervisory position within the Data Control Unit of the Benefits Administration Division.  This position is responsible for 7 staff members within the Unit’s Employer Reporting Adjustments & Member Contribution Audits Section.  This Section is responsible for researching, and resolving discrepancies identified on the Cross Foot Error Reports, performing service and contribution audits on accounts identified by the Benefits Processing Unit as having suspect salaries reported or suspect retirement credit awarded, and processing Prior Period Payroll Adjustments received from participating employers who need to revise the retirement payroll data that they previously reported to the Agency.  The successful completion of all of these duties help to assure that the retirement payroll data maintained in the Agency’s databases for members is complete and accurate, and ultimately that the retirement benefits paid based upon this data are correct.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Two or more years of supervisory experience

2.   Two or more years of experience analyzing accounts (billing, payroll, benefits, etc.) to identify and correct discrepancies

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
