Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to direct and manage the Statewide Health Disparities Grant Program within the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities. This position will be responsible for directing the statewide minority grants program by developing the request for applications, conducting solicitations, coordinating the review process, and awarding annual grants to various jurisdictions. This position will also manage the program fiances, and all reporting activities ensuring the program plans are implemented as approved, and present information and/or feedback to the OMHHD Director and/or Deputy Director. These grant programs are the core function of the office and represent direct services to the Black/ African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, and Native Americans population within our Communities.  This position will be responsible for supervising program staff members in addition to several local Community-based organizations, and their program managers.   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.

Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three of which must have been in professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions, and two years of which must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute a master’s or Doctoral degree in a health or human services field for up to two years of the required general experience. (A copy of your transcripits or diploma must be attached to your application.)

2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired applicant should have training and at least three (3) years of experience in working with racial and ethnic minority populations to reduce chronic diseases, such as but not limited to cancer, tobacco use, cardiovascular, infant mortality, asthma and etc.  The applicant should have one (1) year of experience involving analysis of program and statistical reporting forms using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access to monitor grant performance.  All applicants should have excellent speaking and interpersonal skills to conduct various trainings to diverse audiences. The applicant will conduct trainings in an interactive learning session and conduct site visits which may include overnight stay throughout the state.
