Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for a long-term contractual Natural Resource Technician I position located in Garrett County, Maryland. The technician will be stationed in the Mt. Nebo field office in Oakland, Maryland. This is a one-year renewable contract (contingent on funding). Services required will be performed on private lands or lands owned by the State and local governments in the areas of forest management, wildlife management, forest protection, fire suppression, prescribed fire, and urban and community forestry. Maintenance of equipment, as needed, and operation of the following equipment used in the above duties may apply: chainsaw, brush saws, leaf blowers, tractors, ATV's, and other heavy equipment.
Note: The incumbent must be willing and available to work evenings and/or weekends for fire suppression response as well as outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Notes:
1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the biological science technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Persons appointed to this classification may be subject to assignment in any county of the State.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, are required to submit a telephone number where they can be reached in case of forest fire emergencies.
