Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as an Epidemiologist III with the Environmental Health Bureau. The responsibilities for this position include the application of epidemiology knowledge, skills, and abilities in the implementation of Environmental Health Bureau (Bureau) services, programs, policies, and grants such as coordination of Bureau epidemiology activities, managing grant deliverables and reports, conducting complex data analyses, and interpreting and disseminating results of epidemiologic studies for public health action. The person in this position will be the program manager for the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) program, which is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Responsibilities include: planning, implementation, and maintenance of reports and products. This person will work closely with the climate change, asthma, injury and violence prevention, and other Bureau surveillance programs to coordinate efforts with EPHT program activities and provide expertise for epidemiology, exposure assessments and statistical analysis as needed. In addition to having expertise in biostatistics, this person should have had courses and/or prior work experience in environmental health. This position will strengthen the depth of expertise in use of biostatistical data analysis methods in the analysis of environmental health problems and health outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics A copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial) must accompany your application.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note:

1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have a doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics, and at least three years of professional experience working with federal grants, surveillance, epidemiology, data analysis publishing manuscripts, and supervising staff.
