Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the overall administration of the county epidemiology programs. The County Epidemiologist serves as the agency lead epidemiology expert. Incumbent directs the monitoring, collection, analysis, and translation of public health data for the community, policy-makers, public health professionals, and community organizational partners. This position is also responsible for cross-agency data collection, analysis, and communication as needed for public health purposes. This includes multiple local organizational partners, such as public agencies and health care institutes, as well as collaborative effort with other counties in the Southern Maryland region. This position oversees the work of any needed epidemiology service contracts and epidemiology/public health students involved in epidemiology investigations or data analysis. This position also provides epidemiology-related guidance to other public health staff involved in an epidemiologic investigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics. A copy of your transcripts(official or unofficial) must accompany your application.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: 1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
