Introduction

The Correctional Supply Officer Supervisor is the supervisory level of work involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates in storekeeping and warehousing operations at a correctional institution.  Employees in this classification supervise Correctional Supply Officers.

The resulting eligible list will be used to fill the current vacancy at the Eastern Correctional Institution Only (Somerset, Maryland).  Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for one year.

The recruitment is limited to Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS) employees only.

LOCATION OF POSITION

The vacancy for this recruitment is located at the Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI), Westover, Maryland (Somerset County).

Main Purpose of Job

Supervises Correctional Supply Officers in maintaining stocks of supplies & materials required for operation of a correctional institution; including ordering, receiving, storing, issuing & accounting for inventory items; as well as training & supervising inmates in the performance of such activities.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Supervises the ordering, receiving, storing, issuing and maintaining of records to account for a variety of supplies, materials and equipment used in the institution operations.
  • Trains and supervises inmates assigned to storekeeping and/or warehousing operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Two years of experience involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmate workers in storekeeping or warehousing operations at a correctional facility.

Note:

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Recruitment is limited to employees working or willing to work in Somerset County, Maryland.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Some positions in this classification may require the operation of a motor vehicle for the transportation of inmates or supplies. Employees assigned such duties will be required to acquire the appropriate Maryland driver's license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the MarylandCorrectional Training Commission for institutional support staff during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for institutional support staff training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
Oral interview
A completed background investigation
Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
