POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent for this position is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Operating Systems and Storage Management Groups of the Technical Services Section of the Annapolis Data Center.  The primary responsibilities are the administration, installation, and maintenance of the mainframe computer software.  This includes the Operating System for the ADC mainframe, and supporting software that provides mainframe access to approximately 15,000 customers of the ADC mainframe.  The incumbent for this position is also responsible for the installation and administration of Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD), Virtual Optical DASD, and the tape subsystems that serve as a repository for the customer's data.  Additional duties include: the development of the Disaster Recovery Plan for the ADC operating system, ensuring its recoverability by keeping the DR plan up-to-date, and ensuring that all backups are run successfully on a daily basis and stored at the offsite storage facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology related field. 

Experience: 3 years administering, installing and maintaining large mainframe computer software. 1 year of supervisory or management experience.

NOTES:  Candidates may substitute 4 years of additional work experience maintaining MVS mainframe and computer software for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two additional years of experience in installing and maintaining a z/OS operating system and associated components using SMP/E, such as, JES 2, ISPF, SDSF, TSO, HSM, etc.
  • Install and maintain independent software vendor (ISV) system products as required on the z/OS mainframe.
  • General knowledge of installing hardware components on z/OS mainframe, such as, DASD storage systems, Tape Libraries, etc.
  • Management and/or supervisory experience in  Information Technology environment

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview.  Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
