Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Director of the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, reporting directly to the Secretary of DHMH.  Responsibilities for this position are consistent with the duties outlined in the Annotated Code of Maryland Health General articles 20-1001 to 20-1007. The purpose of this position is to identify, develop, direct and evaluate the implementation of a strategic plan to reduce minority health disparities throughout the State of Maryland. This position must lead and manage staff to appropriately achieve its goals and promote a targeted focus on the improvement of minority health disparities.  This will be achieved by working in partnership with other public and private entities to establish appropriate forums, programs and initiatives to close the gap.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and six years of health or human services administrative or professional experience, including three years at a supervisory or management level.  A Master's Degree in business or health care administration, public health or public policy is preferred and will substitute for one year of general experience.  A Doctorate will substitute for two years of general experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates will have experience with Minority Health and/or Health Disparities.
