Main Purpose of Job

To manage a wide variety of equipment and supervise the functions of: operating and monitoring the network's remote-controlled transmitters, dispatching transmission engineering personnel to areas requiring maintenance, ensuring the integrity of on-air programming, executing recordings and preparing shows for air, routing sources to uplink, fiber-optic, and in-house sources, ingesting and transcoding different formats of media elements into video files for multiple uses, operate uplink system and act as back up for the daytime digital video broadcast specialist/supervisor. The Digital Video Broadcast Specialist encodes MPT productions for Video On Demand and delivers them to Comcast, FIOS and any other designated outlets. They also encode for MPT web outlets including COVE player and MPT's Youtube channel. many of these procedures are time sensitive and need to be turned around promptly. The Digital Video Specialist ensures caption compliance with the FCC regulations for MPT-HD and MPT2. Responsible for transferring and maintaining files generated by caption recording equipment.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Ensure integrity of on-air product, monitor incoming and outgoing broadcast signals, monitor SAP, video and audio, telecaptioning, EAS, tower beacons, monitor automation system to ensure electronic log contains no problematic events and matches paper logs, document discrepancies from normal operation, ensure each event logged airs as scheduled
  • Prepare programming for broadcast and record; Perform tape or automation setup duties for record and broadcast for events scheduled on the program log and record/feed schedule, prep and check recordings to ensure scheduled event was recorded and for technical quality.  Prepare for broadcast or video files from various media sources and formats.  Ingest all break elements including promos, fillers, IDs and underwriter spots.  Identify and edit problematic events in automation, server or documented on paper logs.
  • Encode MPT productions for Video On Demand and deliver them to Comcast, FIOS and any other designated outlets.  Encode for MPT web outlets including COVE player and MPT's Youtube channel.  Ensures caption compliance with the FCC regulations for MPT-HD and MPT2.  Responsible for transferring and maintain generated by caption recording equipment.
  • Transmitter Operation:  Monitor transmitter return signals to ensure within parameters, acknowledge transmitter alarms and discern why there is an alarm, perform EAS tests and maintain the EAS log, ensure transmitter readings are present, report transmitter problems to Chief Engineer and site supervisors, dispatch transmission personnel as necessary, resolve certain transmitter problems remotely.
  • Set up and execute satellite uplinks/feeds:  operate uplink system, prepare and route sources to destinations, coordinate with outside agencies, such as PBS, to ensure MPT's signal is transmitted to feed destinations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED  

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Three years of related experience
