Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21043

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the supervision of the Columbia Campus Elementary, Transitional, and ES Teachers and Teacher Aides in the Elementary School. This position is responsible for providing assistance and guidance regarding IEP goals and curriculum objectives to help maintain a quality education for MSD students; to provide a bilingual and bicultural environment conducive to the development of the social and emotional growth of deaf and hard of hearing students.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist in hiring/orientation of new faculty; observe and evaluate staff; assist with classroom management; plan and direct meetings, staff development, trainings and in-service events; coordinate, plan, implement, and evaluate the professional development of assigned personnel; Assist in orientation; counseling; discipline; due process; data gathering; student recognition; and securing student services with outside agencies; monitor IEP implementation including teachers’ strategies to implement IEPs; assist teachers in formulating appropriate educational objectives, strategies and activities including review of IEPs and weekly syllabus/lesson plans; coordinate the assigning of staff to classes; supervise state and local standardized testing to ensure compliance with established processes and policies; promote consistent discipline within the school.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special Education required. Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required.  Must be fluent in American Sign Language and written English.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must hold or be eligible to obtain the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Administrator I certification in the required timeframe.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560 – 5-568).
