Introduction

There are TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE and both are Full-Time CONTRACTUAL. The work assignment locations will primarily be PRINCE GEORGE'S and MONTGOMERY COUNTIES but at times may include some other statewide assignment.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to conduct New Entrant Audits (Safety Audits) at Carrier locations and Preventive Maintenance Audits at company locations throughout the State. In addition, the position is also responsible for maintaining and operating Maryland State Police vehicles and equipment such as computers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience conducting safety inspections of commercial vehicles at state weigh stations.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in the mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection of commercial motor vehicles may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional experience in law enforcement activities including vehicle inspections may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees must possess and maintain certification as required by State Transportation Article, Section 25-111 (h)(2), Title 49, Sections 107-108 and 300-399 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation and as required by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance guidelines.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

2. In accordance with Section 15 (b) (4) of the Department of State Police Article, candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background investigation, to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual(s) to fill the vacancies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
