Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to supervise Maryland Authorized Inspection Stations to ensure conformance to designated rules, regulations and procedures governing the safety inspections of vehicles in the State of Maryland. It also provides guidance and keeps inspection station personnel informed of new policies that affect the inspection program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six months of experience performing mechanical repair, maintenance or inspection of motor vehicles.

Notes: 1. Additional experience in the mechanical repair, maintenance or inspection of motor vehicles may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional experience in law enforcement activities including vehicle inspections may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

2. In accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background investigation, to include a polygraph examination, before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED category and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
