The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 200,000 active members and more than 150,000 retires and beneficiaries.

The Agency's Information Systems Division is recruiting for a full-time/contractual IT Production Control Specialist II.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to oversee the set up and distribution of all data processing production jobs.

POSITION DUTIES

 

This position will perform the following duties:  

· Maintains job control language and control procedures for all production jobs;

· Makes necessary corrections to the input files and reprocess;

· Releases data output files for processing by production schedulers;

· Forwards batched data for enrollments and beneficiaries to outside keying vendor;

· Runs weekly and monthly security backup jobs;

· Receives and registers incoming data requests and related production information as submitted by the Data Control Unit employees.

· Locates procedures to key and verify production data requests for submission to production schedulers; 

· Keys data input files for processing by production schedulers by placing data files names in an email to notify production schedulers to upload this data into the Agency’s pension administration system, and schedule a job run using this data file;

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: 18 months of experience scheduling or setting up data processing jobs for production, controlling data input and output or maintaining a tape library for multipurpose and multi-tasking computers.

Note:

1.  Experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information or performing clerical work involving reconciliation of data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer Clerk and Assistant classifications or computer Clerk and Assistant specialty codes in the General, Administrative, clerical, and Office Services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Be able to demonstrate typing or keying into a data entry software program  at least 35 words per minute.
  • One year's experience working with CRT Video Terminals.
  • One year's experience correcting job computer language errors and resolving software crash error problems with programmers and/or analysts.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
