Main Purpose of Job

The Maintenance Mechanic, Sr. will perform advanced-level work in building and grounds maintenance.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Mechanic, Sr. will apply his/her expertise to the facility maintenance needs of the Victor Cullen Academy located in Western, Maryland. The incumbent must be able to lift objects that weigh at least 50lbs. as it relates to the duties of the position.The Maintenance Mechanic, Sr. will be responsible for performing various general maintenance tasks such as simple construction, repairs to roadways and walkways, routine preventative building and grounds maintenance, minor electrical work, and other general services work.

The Maintenance Mechanic, Sr. position is a great opportunity for skilled trade professionals who would like to apply their mechanical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills to a variety of maintenance projects.  The position will require the inspection of buildings to ensure Preventative Maintenance Operation compliance. The incumbent will also be responsible for assigning and reviewing the work of skilled and unskilled maintenance workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades of which three years shall have been in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who posses a trade certification are desired

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be able to lift objects that weigh at least 50lbs.

Must be able to adhere to a on-call 24 hour/7 days per week work schedule

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a year.

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as it relate to the requirements of the position. BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
