Technician may be assigned to one of three (3) locations depending on which is closest to their home: 

Waldorf Radio shop - Waldorf, MD (Charles County)

Matapeake Radio shop in Stevensville, MD (Queen Anne’s County)

Greenridge Radio Shop in Flintstone, MD (Allegany County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Wireless Communications Division, is currently accepting applications for a Long-Term Contractual Radio Technician IV to work at the Waldorf, Greenridge or Matapeake Radio Shop. This position is a lead worker level of technical radio work involving the installation, repair and maintenance of transmitters, receivers and related radio equipment in at least one subordinate radio technician and provide technical guidance and training to lower level workers. Employees receive general supervision from a radio Technician Supervisor or a designated Administrator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Seven years experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment of which six years must have included the repair of two-way FM radios.

Notes: 

1. Applicants may substitute successful completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the Aviation Communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants are to possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license, a FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate, or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officer Incorporated certificate and must list their license or certificate number and expiration date on the application.

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. In cases where state travel is necessary, a state vehicle will be provided.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the job classification.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
