Main Purpose of Job

This is the entry level of work, at the Master's Degree level, performed under close supervision, counseling clients with substance use disorders by using intervention, treatment and rehabilitation. Employees in this classification receive supervision from an Alcohol and Drug Professional Counselor Supervisor or other supervisor approved by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, does not supervise and must apply to the Board for recognition as a trainee. This position relates directly to the mission of Agency by providing quality addiction treatment to adult clients with addiction problems.

This position determines the correct level of treatment using ASAM-PPC, and complete the intake process on clients of the agency.  This position provides individual, group and family counseling to agency clients.  It also provides case management services to clients with complex problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A master’s or doctoral degree in a health or human services counseling field from an accredited college or university approved by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or completion of a program of studies judged by the Board to be substantially equivalent in subject matter and training.  A copy of your college transcripts should accompany your application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must apply for and receive a letter of authorization to practice as a trainee from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists within 90 days of their date of hire.

2. Employees must successfully obtain certification or licensure from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as either a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug or a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor within one year of meeting the experience requirements for Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
