Assateague State Park- Berlin, MD (Worcester County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, Assateague State Park in Berlin, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Beach Manager. This position will be a 9- month contractual position working up to 20 hours per week Spring 2017 (February 2017- May 2017) and 40 hours per week Summer 2017 (June 2017-October 2017). The incumbent provides oversight of Assateague State Park beach operations including recruiting lifeguards, creating training program, adherence to ASP Waterfront Management Plan, and administrative support including report writing, data collection and maintenance of daily records. The incumbent will be responsible for oversight of lifeguard team of approximately 15 staff members including scheduling, training, equipment management, and report writing.   Excellent skills in organization and communication are required. The ability to work outdoors in changing environmental conditions and in high stress situations is a must. The selected candidate must be able to begin work in early February 2017 for recruitment of lifeguard staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a certified lifeguard.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

Associate's Degree or above preferred.

Ocean lifeguarding experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must have a valid driver's license. 

Ability to operate a 4-wheel-drive vehicle and ATV (all terrain vehicle) on the beach. 

Position requires working weekends and holidays.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
