Main Purpose of Job

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Washington Monument State Park in Middletown, Maryland and Gathland State Park in Jefferson, Maryland. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the position(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment. Please review the main purpose of each job closely before applying.

PARK RANGER (3 vacancies)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide visitors with park information and regulations
• Register campers
• Monitor and cleaning of campgrounds, bath houses and restrooms
• General maintenance of park trails, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vessels and vehicles
• Monitor recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to hunting, fishing, hiking and biking

HISTORICAL INTERPRETER (12 vacancies)
The Historical Interpreter presents living history and educational programs to park visitors. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Present historical tours and programs to park patrons
• Assist in the organization and operation of historical events
• Develop displays
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of historic buildings
• Conduct historical research
• May require the wearing of historically appropriate clothing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.

Experience: None.
