Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage, evaluate, direct, coordinate and administer and supervise the HIV/STD Prevention and Care Program consisting of seventeen (17) HIV and STD staff, comprising professional nurses and social workers, other health care professionals, paraprofessionals, medical personnel, consultants and secretarial staff, in fulfilling the mission of the Health Department, which is to preserve, protect and promote the health of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience as a community health nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity or one year of experience as a community health nurse and two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a registered nurse.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a community health nurse for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of experience as a community health nurse for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.  

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful appplicant should have HIV/STD background/experience, grant writing experience and Ryan White background/experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
